Locked gates, callboxes, key-fob entries, and no-trespassing rules can all stand between a server and the front door. Add a front desk or property manager screening visitors and access gets even harder.
How Ring and video doorbells change service
Video doorbells let people see who’s outside and simply not answer. A good server adapts by varying days and times and approaching without tipping off the visit, so screening is less effective.
Strategies that work
Effective options include serving at building entrances and exits, varying attempt times, working with a lobby or manager where appropriate, using substituted service on a competent adult, and serving at an alternate address such as a workplace.

If you have it, share gate codes, the person’s schedule, a vehicle description or photo, and a work address. Small details often turn a difficult serve into a quick one.
