Serving Documents for Sacramento Superior Court Cases

If you have a case in Sacramento Superior Court, you need a process server who knows this court system inside and out. Sacramento Registered Process Server handles service of process for cases filed in Sacramento County Superior Court every day. We know the courthouses, the filing procedures, and the requirements for each division — so your documents get served correctly and filed where they need to go.

Sacramento Superior Court is one of the busiest courts in California, handling tens of thousands of cases each year across civil, criminal, family law, probate, and small claims divisions. We serve all document types: summons and complaints, cross-complaints, subpoenas, motions, restraining orders, family law petitions, unlawful detainers, and small claims filings. Every service comes with a signed Proof of Service that meets the court’s filing standards — formatted correctly, ready to submit to the clerk.

Sacramento County operates three courthouse locations: the Gordon D. Schaber Courthouse (720 9th Street) handles civil unlimited cases and felony matters; the Carol Miller Justice Center (301 Bicentennial Circle) handles limited civil, small claims, and misdemeanors; and the William R. Ridgeway Family Relations Courthouse (3341 Power Inn Road) handles all family law matters. If you’re unsure which courthouse handles your case, we can help you figure it out based on your case number and case type.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you file my Proof of Service at Sacramento Superior Court?

Yes. We offer court filing at all three Sacramento Superior Court locations — the Gordon D. Schaber Courthouse, Carol Miller Justice Center, and the Ridgeway Family Relations Courthouse. Filing is a $30 add-on to any service.

How do I know which Sacramento courthouse my case is at?

Your case number and case type determine the courthouse. Civil unlimited cases are at the main courthouse on 9th Street, limited civil and small claims are at Carol Miller Justice Center, and family law cases are at the Ridgeway courthouse on Power Inn Road. If you’re not sure, give us your case number and we’ll help you figure it out.

Do you serve documents inside the courthouse?

Yes. If your situation requires service on an attorney or party at the courthouse — such as service of a motion or subpoena during a court appearance — we can coordinate that.

What’s the difference between service of process and court filing?

Service of process is the physical delivery of legal documents to the person named in those documents. Court filing is submitting documents to the court clerk for inclusion in the official case record. Many situations require both — you serve the other party and then file the Proof of Service with the court. We handle both.

Can you serve documents for a Sacramento Superior Court case if the person lives in another county?

Yes. The case may be filed in Sacramento Superior Court, but the person being served can live anywhere. We cover Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Yolo, and San Joaquin counties. If the person is outside our service area, we’ll let you know and can recommend options.
