How to Serve Uber in California

Uber operates in virtually every major city in California and is one of the most frequently served companies in the state. Personal injury claims from rideshare accidents, sexual assault lawsuits, PAGA employment actions, independent contractor disputes, and subpoenas for trip records make Uber a constant presence on Sacramento registered agent service routes. Serving Uber correctly requires knowing which entity to name — and there are more of them than most people realize.

The Correct Legal Entity

Uber Technologies, Inc. is the parent company. It is a Delaware corporation headquartered in San Francisco. This is the entity most commonly named in California lawsuits.

However, Uber’s corporate structure includes subsidiaries that are frequently named in litigation, and getting the entity wrong can derail a case:

Raiser LLC — This is the entity that contracts with Uber drivers. If your lawsuit involves a driver’s employment status, compensation, or the driver agreement, Raiser LLC may be the correct or additional defendant.
Rasier-CA LLC — This is the California-specific rideshare operating subsidiary. It holds the TCP (Transportation Charter-Party Carrier) permit from the California Public Utilities Commission. In personal injury cases arising from California Uber rides, Rasier-CA LLC is frequently named alongside Uber Technologies, Inc.

Naming only “Uber” without specifying the correct legal entity is a common mistake. The complaint should identify the precise entity — and ideally, the SOS filing number.

Search bizfileonline.sos.ca.gov to confirm the current registered agent for each entity before serving. Uber Technologies, Raiser LLC, and Rasier-CA LLC may have different agent designations.

Where to Serve

Registered agent for Uber Technologies, Inc.: CSC Lawyers Incorporating Service

CSC is the registered agent for Uber’s parent entity in California. Their Sacramento office at 2710 Gateway Oaks Drive is in the South Natomas corridor, with free surface parking and ground-floor access. CSC accepts service of process Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Note the early closing time — this is the tightest service window of any major Sacramento registered agent.

For Raiser LLC and Rasier-CA LLC, verify the registered agent separately on the Secretary of State’s website. These subsidiaries may use the same agent or a different one.

What Documents Are Commonly Served

Uber’s litigation volume in California is among the highest of any technology company. Common documents include:

Personal injury complaints — Rideshare accident cases naming Uber Technologies, Rasier-CA LLC, and the individual driver. These are high-frequency filings in every California county.
Sexual assault and battery complaints — A significant and growing category of Uber litigation involving assaults by drivers on passengers.
PAGA actions — Private Attorneys General Act claims alleging that Uber misclassifies drivers as independent contractors and violates California labor code provisions on wages, breaks, expenses, and benefits. AB5 (the gig worker law) and Proposition 22 have not eliminated this litigation.
Subpoenas for trip records — Attorneys in personal injury, criminal, family law, and insurance cases frequently subpoena Uber for trip data, driver information, and ride histories. These subpoenas are served on the registered agent.
Class action complaints — Large-scale consumer and employment class actions remain active against Uber in California courts.

How We Handle It

CSC at 2710 Gateway Oaks Drive is one of our highest-volume service locations. We serve there multiple times per week and know the building, suite, and intake procedures thoroughly. The critical detail for Uber service is the 2:00 PM cutoff — CSC closes for service acceptance earlier than any other major agent in Sacramento. We schedule Uber services accordingly to ensure delivery within the window.

For cases involving multiple Uber entities (Uber Technologies + Rasier-CA LLC + Raiser LLC), we verify each entity’s agent designation and serve all required locations. We provide separate proofs of service for each entity served.
